I am 19 years old and I live in Texas USA
Hi my name is Ginger and I am kitty Cat's new roommate.
I was homeless and hungry and thanks to Kitty Cat's owner I now have a home to live in. He was giving me food several times a day when I showed up in his patio and asked for it and after about 10 days or so he finally allowed me to come inside after I and Kitty Cat got to know each other better.
(June 1, 2022) I consider myself so lucky to have a place that I can call home now. I pretty much invited myself in by following my new owner inside a little past 12 am that day. At last I had a safe place that I could be able to get some decent food and restful sleep without having to worry about being chased by the neighborhood dogs.
My owner took me to the vet around 10 am that morning to get checked out, but unbeknownst to everyone I had given birth to 3 kittens in my owner's patio a few days earlier and I was missing them and were so worried for them being outside all alone by themselves without anyone knowing about them.
It was just by chance that my new owner went outside later on the day close to midnight to check for any damages after a rainstorm that we had earlier in the evening when he heard one of my kittens crying out.
He took his flashlight and started searching the grounds in his patio and found one of my kittens crawling on the ground all wet and covered with mud and so he brought it inside and washed the mud off of it and placed it in front of me. I picked up my kitten and took it to my den which is a nightstand cabinet that my owner has made a hole on the side of it for me and has a door in the front that he can open when he brings me food and water.
My owner went back searching outside again and he found another one of my kittens that was unconscious and wasn’t moving at all and so he cleaned it up and wrapped it in a warm blanket and rubbed its body a little bit which made it come back to life.
My owner couldn’t find any more of my kittens outside, but out of his great wisdom knowing that I might have more than two kittens he let me go outside myself which made it possible for me to fetch my last kitten out of its hiding place and pick it up in my mouth and bring it inside since my owner was keeping the door open for me and waiting for me to return.
I cleaned all my kittens and started nursing them since they were so cold and hungry. My owner was thoughtful enough to turn the heater on in his home to keep my kittens nice and warm.
I can’t be thankful enough to my new owner for first saving me and then saving my kittens. I am forever grateful to him and specially to Kitty Cat for accepting me and my kittens as her new friends and for allowing me to tell my story here.
(June 23, 2022) From left to right: Stormy, Rocky, and Lucky at about three and a half weeks old.
Stormy is the one that was unconscious and came back to life after my owner massaged it with a warm towel, Rocky is the one that my owner heard crying out and was found first, and Lucky is the chubby one that I fetched and brought inside myself.
(July 15, 2022) The kittens are now about six weeks old and are busy playing and eating most of the time.
(Aug 8, 2022) The word is getting around that my owner is taking care of my kittens and so another mother cat has brought her kittens to my owner's patio.
This being the middle of the summer in Texas with the temperatures consistently going over 100f my owner has brought the new kittens inside for now to keep them cool. He has made a special den for them to keep them separated from everyone else until everyone gets more used to them.
Luckily the kittens have been weaned off milk by their mother and so they just now have started eating solid food and can drink water on their own. Transitioning from being nursed by their mom to being able to eat and drink is the most critical time for kittens and usually they need to be taught how to do that. If the kittens fail to eat and drink they can get weak and die and so it's very important to monitor their weight and habits to make sure that they are getting enough nutrients and water. It's also important to monitor the kittens for any signs and symptoms of constipation, dehydration, internal and external parasites and infections (specially in the nose, ears, and eyes) as these can be life threatening to them. kittens should normally have their mouth closed as they breathe through their nose and so if they have their mouth open all the time that might be a sign that they cannot breathe through their nose due to a blockage which needs to be checked out by the vet right away. Don't let kittens play or chew on wires and strings or any pieces of wood, plastic, or cloth that can be swallowed and for this reason you have to be careful what toys you let them play with. Usually if a kitten keeps to itself and doesn't want to eat or play that means that something is wrong and that it should be seen by a vet. Kittens (cats in general) have a higher body temperature than humans (around 100f to102f) and so the kittens should feel warm to the touch when you hold them, if they feel cold then that should also be cause for concern.
As far as taking some preventative measures for constipation and dehydration you can mix a teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil and a teaspoon of pure canned pumpkin with a 3 OZ (85 grams) canned pate kitten food and give it to them (5 to 6 kittens) two or three times a day while also putting a bowl of dry kitten food for them to nibble on in between. Be careful not to use too much olive oil as too much fat is not good for cats, if their stool becomes too soft you need to cut down on the amount of olive oil and the number of times that you add it to their food (if the food is already oily you can just add the pumpkin without adding any olive oil, but you still need to watch the amount of pumpkin if their stool becomes loose). As the kittens get older you can let them eat more of the dry food and give them a little wet canned food as a snack (with the olive oil and pumpkin added occasionally as tolerated), although you probably need to combine more of the canned food if you are giving it to them as their meal. Until the kittens learn how to eat and drink on their own you need to hand feed them and even after the kittens learn how to eat on their own you might still need to continue giving them water until they start drinking on their own too. It's important to remember that kittens should not be given solid food or water for the first 4 to 5 weeks while they are still nursing and getting milk from their mother. If the mother cat is not present or doesn't produce enough milk you need to bottlefeed them every three or four hours with liquid or powder milk substitute that is specially made for kittens (called KMR which stands for Kitten Milk Replacement). If the kittens are left hungry for too long they might start suckling on each other's body parts in search of milk which could cause an injury if it is not stopped in time. Once the kittens are weaned off milk (usually around 4 to 5 weeks old) don't give them milk anymore as milk is not good for cats after a certain age. To wean the kittens off of milk start introducing them to solid food by mixing a teaspoon of milk with a teaspoon of canned food that is made specially for kittens and hand feed them using a spoon or a small syringe. Don't force the food down their throat, just push a little of it in the corner of their mouth at a time and let them swallow it themselves. Gradually start mixing in water with the canned food instead of milk and keep hand feeding them untill they start eating the food off the plate on their own.
Make sure not to give kittens (or cats in general) any human foods that can make them sick such as onions, garlic, raw eggs or raw meats, chocolate, caffeinated drinks, alcohol, raw dough, dairy like milk, grapes, cherries, chives, leeks, scallions, shallots, citrus like lemons and oranges, and raisins (also a steady diet of liver or canned tuna is not good for cats and keep in mind that some human medicine are very harmful to cats, best to do a Google search to find a more complete and accurate list of what you can and can not give to cats).
" pets.webmd.com/cats/ss/slideshow-foods-your-cat-should-never-eat "
is one of the good sites that shows what's bad for cats to eat
Incase the kittens get constipated for several days and you don't have access to professional help you might have to try to get the kittens to have a bowel movement by massaging their belly and bottom under warm water (Google triangle method also called three finger method for kitten constipation relief). For severe cases you might have to give the kittens an enema with a special kit and fluid that are made for this purpose although if you have to you can use a small syringe with half a milliliter of baby oil or olive oil. Only insert the narrow tip of a small plastic syringe and push the fluid in gradually while holding the tip of the syringe in place for around 30 seconds or so in order for the fluid (in this case the baby oil or olive oil) to work its way in around the compacted and hardened poop and then gently massage it out. Don't get distracted by the loud screaming and the kittens not wanting to stay put, but if you are unsuccessful to get the kittens to have a bowel movement after a minute or two don't subject them to any further discomfort and try to get them seen by a vet as this might be a more serious condition that requires special tools and methods or even surgery and that is why that it's so important to keep the kittens hydrated and take some steps to prevent constipation from taking hold such as keeping them active and adding some extra virgin olive oil and pure pumpkin to their food when you see that they are straining themselves excessively in the litter box and that their stool looks to be very hard.
Another thing to watch for is excessive and continuous aggression amongst kittens (or even by their mother in some rare cases). It's okay for kittens to play fight as long as they don't bite too hard and as long as they take turns being submissive to one another by rolling on their back, but if one kitten wants to play rough and constantly wants to dominate all the other kittens by bullying and biting them too hard to the point that it makes the other kittens scream in pain then that is a bad behavior that needs to be discouraged by holding the aggressive kitten tightly until it calms down. You have to say NO to kittens whenever they do something wrong so that they get to understand what the word NO means and if they stop their wrong behavior be sure to reward them by petting them and or giving them a treat.
It's a good idea to give the kittens a bath at 4 weeks old to wash away all the dirt and germs that has accumulated on their fur. Be sure to only use soap that is specially made for kittens (cats) and rinse and dry them thoroughly as to not to leave any residual chemicals and substances on them that they can lick off of their fur later on. If you don't have special soap or shampoo the next best thing to use might be Dawn detergent that wildlife rescuers use to clean off animals that are covered in tar and oil. Because cats constantly like to lick their fur avoid using regular human soap or conditioner on them as these can be harmful to them once ingested. It's very important not to separate the kittens from their mom before they are 4 weeks old as they build a lot of their immunity during these first few weeks of their life. Before bathing the kittens it's a good idea to clip their nails because even at a young age they can still make some painful scratches. But It's very Important to only clip the very tip of their nail that is sharp and looks white if you get in the part that looks pink that means you are cutting into the flesh and the veins inside the nail which can cause bleeding and be very painful for the kittens (or cats in general), you can always wrap the kittens tightly in a towel in order to avoid being scratched while handling them.
It's a good idea to have the kittens seen by a vet to get some professional opinions and advice about their conditions and to also schedule them for their wellness check and vaccinations. Also Keep in mind that kittens could reach puberty as early as 4 months old and so it's a good idea to also plan for their spaying and neutering. As far as determining the kittens' gender if their rectum and genitalia are right next to each other then they are female and if there is some distance between them that is covered with fur then they are male. The male kittens only have a round spot at first which develops as their genitalia later on as they get older.
Make sure the kittens are kept inside for the first few months so that they are not subjected to very cold or hot weather, the ideal temperature for them is around 75f to 80f. Later on if the kittens are going to be kept outside make sure to build a shelter for them to keep them safe from the extremes in weather and other animals. In the winter months provide them with a plastic bin (or an insulated cooler or ice chest) that has a 6 inch by 6 inch hole on the side of it and that is covered with straw at the bottom in order to keep the cats warm (make sure to only use straw since it repels moisture, hay or blankets attract moisture which makes it feel cold). The cats' own body heat can keep them warm if they have a dry and insulated den that they can crawl into, but you might consider putting a heat lamp or a small heater in their shelter in the extreme cold nights since cats can get frostbite on their paws in freezing weather. In the summer make sure to provide them with some shade and also make sure that they have plenty of fresh water to drink you might also consider spraying a mist of water on the ground in the heat of the afternoon in order to keep them cool. You can also give them the kind of cat food that has more calories during the winter and the kind that has less calories during the summer this way it will help keep them warmer in winter and cooler in summer (keep in mind that cat foods made for kittens have a lot more calories and nutrients than the regular cat foods).
It's very important to watch your step around kittens since they are attracted to feet and shoes, best to get in the habit of sliding or dragging your feet on the ground when moving as to not to step on them since you never know when one might be resting at your feet.
Try to discourage the kittens from biting on your hands and feet, although it might be harmless while they are still little, but if they get in the habit of doing that they can cause a lot of pain later on when they are all grown up.
Don't keep too much sand in the litter box so that you can empty it and wash it more frequently. Just put a thin layer of sand, but try to sift it and add fresh sand more often.
Cats like to hide in the engine compartment under the hood of cars specially in the cold mornings and so always bang your fist on the hood or push the horn a few times in order to make them leave before you start the car.
Don't allow the kittens to snuggle with you in bed while sleeping because if you roll over them in your sleep they can get suffocated.
If you ever have to punish the kittens make sure it's for their own good as far as trying to keep them out of danger. The punishment has to be proportional to the severity of the situation at hand, but should never be out of anger or overly harsh. Using a firm and loud tone of voice to say "NO" usually makes the kittens stop what they are doing, but if necessary you can hold them tightly to get them to calm down. In extreme cases when one kitten is being overly aggressive to another one you might need to gently hit the aggressive kitten on the top of its head with one finger while say NO at the same time, but make sure to pet the kitten on the top of its head immediately afterwards. That's what the mother cat does when the kittens are misbehaving, she gives them a little bite on the neck and then immediately afterwards she caresses them by leaking the top of their heads. It's important not to discourage the kittens from being active and playful as they need all the play fighting and running around to build up their muscles.
If the kittens come up with a case of "Cat Flu" which is very contagious amongst cats (but not as much to humans in most cases) be sure to use a damp piece of soft toilet paper to gently clean around their eyes and nose several times a day to prevent the fluid and mucus build up from becoming too hard to get off which then can clog up their nose and make it hard for them to breathe. While handling the kittens be sure to take all the necessary precautions in order to prevent the virus from spreading (such as by wearing gloves and by preventing cross contamination). Although the virus might stay with the kittens forever, but providing good nutrition and a relaxing environment can help the kittens get well faster. In some rare cases the Cat Flu can become life threatening to very young or very old cats if it doesn't get resolved on its own within a few days. It's a good idea to talk to a veterinarian (and do a search on the web) to educate yourself more about the Cat Flu and all the other diseases that can affect the Kittens and Cats in general.
" pets.webmd.com/cats "
is one of the many good websites that you can find out about different diseases and conditions that affect cats.
To keep the cats healthy on a long term basis make sure to give them a quality cat food that has all the necessary nutrients. Many of the famous brands make different levels of cat food when it comes to cost and quality. Unfortunately most of the less expensive ones are made of ingredients that can make cats develop allergies and diseases specially those that are made mainly of animal byproducts and corn which are not easy to digest. So it's important to do your research and actually read the ingredient list because what is being advertised in large print on the front of the bag might be somewhat misleading and different from what has been written in small print in the ingredient list on the back of the bag. Look for actual chicken, turkey, meat, or fish as the first ingredient (instead of their byproducts which don't provide that much nutritional value) and better quality grains like rice instead of corn and also try to avoid those that have too much artificial coloring and preservatives. You have to do some research to find a balance between cost and quality that suits your budget and situation. It is best to give cats some wet canned food occasionally too since if cats don't get enough moisture in their system they can develop unitary tract and constipation problems. If you can't afford some of the high end cat foods try giving your cat some morsels of your own food at the table in addition to their food, but make sure not to give them anything that is dangerous to cats (Google the list of foods that are bad for cats). If you are on a very low budget it might be a good idea to mix two or three different brands of cat foods together. You can mix one bag of high quality brand with two bags of medium quality brands to make your own special mix, but try to stay away from the very low quality cat foods because in the long run those are going to cause more trouble than they are worth as far as causing all different kinds of diseases for the cats. Also keep in mind that whenever switching to a new kind of food make sure to introduce it in your cat's diet gradually by mixing the new and old foods together while increasing the amount of the new food and reducing the amount of the old food over several days in order to give the cat a little time to adjust to the new food otherwise cats can get digestive problems (like diarrhea) if their food is changed all of a sudden. If you are on a very tight budget you might consider contacting some of the organizations that look after pets to see if they give away any free food for cats, (some of these organizations have assistance programs for cats in need which might also apply to vaccinations and neutering).
All of us cats and kittens are doing okay although in a few more months the kittens have to be called cats too. They are already bigger than us and are still growing.
As Kitty Cat gets older she is going to need some help with constipation, my owner prefers to keep the constipation under control for us younger cats through our diet and by making sure that we have plenty of fresh water to drink at all times, but since Kitty Cat is so much older my owner is giving her some Miralax to help her have an easier bowl movement.
He mixes 1/4 teaspoon Miralax and 1/2 teaspoon of pure pumpkin in about 12 milliliters of water (which is about 2 teaspoons of water) and gives the liquid mixture to Kitty Cat through her mouth once a day.
My owner doesn't force anything down any of the cats' throats, He just fills a small plastic syringe with the mixture and puts the tip of it in the corner of Kitty Cat's mouth while slowly squeezing the mixture out. He also makes sure to allow Kitty Cat enough time to swallow before squeezing anymore of the mixture into her mouth.
He also observes Kitty Cat to see if she is having a hard time at the litter box and whether the stool is overly hard or loose, if so He adjusts the the amount of Miralax by about plus or minus 1/4 of a teaspoon. If Kitty Cat still has a hard time at the litter box my owner might give her the mixture twice on the days that her constipation is worse.
My owner has also tried giving the Miralax solution without the pumpkin and currently trying a new method by sprinkling 1 Teaspoon of Miralax powder on 2 cups of dry cat food just for Kitty Cat and this method seems to be working better since Kitty Cat doesn't like to be fed with a syringe that much (shake the dry cat food in the container as you sprinkle it with the Miralax powder to make sure that all the pieces are covered evenly, no need to add any water to this, but make sure that there is plenty of fresh water available for the older kitty to drink, also make sure that the other cats don't eat from this container).
If the constipation happens in the younger cats and cannot be remedied at home it's very important to have them checked out by a veterinarian to make sure that there are not any blockages or other serious conditions going on inside them.
(Sep 13, 2022) I and Jennifer got spayed and vaccinated yesterday and currently my owner is helping us with our recovery. The kittens are going to be next when they are old enough and ready. Spaying and neutering helps cats like us have a better quality of life in the long run and is strongly recommended by veterinarians and the organizations that look after cats and dogs.
(Oct 5, 2022) Rocky and Stormy got spayed today and Lucky got neutered. The rest of the kittens are going to be taken care of when they are a little older.
(Oct 8, 2022) The kittens are doing fine and are back to their usual play fighting.
(Oct 12, 2022) One of the kittens was still feeling a little weak after the spaying and my owner took her and showed her to the vet yesterday and they said that she was doing okay after checking her out. She might need a little more time to fully recover and so my owner has taken her inside so that he can keep a closer eye on her.
I am glad that my owner also installed a heater in our den to keep us warm. Although during the day the weather is okay right now but it does get a little chilly around the mornings.
(Oct 21, 2022) Some of the kittens weren't feeling very good lately, apparently had gotten the flu from one another, but their condition is improving since my owner has been busy nursing them back to health for the past few days.
A few of the older kittens have started teething which is when they start losing their milk teeths and grow their permeant ones at around four months old.
(Oct 24, 2022) The kittens are eating and playing around which is a good sign, hopefully they'll get over their flu soon.
(Nov 5, 2022) All the remaining kittens got spayed, neutered, and vaccinated today. My owner has also given each one a name so that they can be registered.
Here are their names and a little description for each one:
Roxie, female, gold with darker gold tail and white belly, chest and paws. Has a very small black spot on top of her head
Daisy, female, gold on top and tail and white underneath with white chest, shoulders, neck, hands, legs, nose, and mouth
Jane, female, gold with white belly, chest, and paws, has no other special features
Leo, male, gold on top and white underneath with white chest, shoulders, neck, hands, feet, nose, and mouth, also has a white spot on his back
Onyx, male, black with white chest, chin, and paws
Wobbly, male, black with white chest and paws and has a wobbly head
Now that all of us cats have been taken care of as far as being spayed or neutered and are brought up to date on our vaccinations perhaps now my owner can focus more of his attention on his website projects that he has been pursuing as a Human Rights and Environmental intellectual and activist. Eventually my owner plans to write his own book if his health allows and present all his thoughts and opinions in one place for everyone to see.
On a side note my owner has been coughing lately like most people because of some of the viruses that are going around, but he discovered that eating Mozzarella and Cheddar cheese can suppress the coughs so he has been putting some of these cheeses in a tortilla and microwaving it for one and a half minutes and eating it with some pickles and potato chips which apparently make his cough go away (at least for a while). My owner also gargles with salty water occasionally which helps with his cough, but he recommends seeing a doctor if the coughing persists for too long.
But her condition seems to be improving, the swelling in her front leg is all gone since my owner has been putting a cold pack on it for 10 minutes couple of times a day for the past few days and the puncture wound on the skin that she had made on the side of her leg by licking it seems to be healing okay since my owner has been keeping it wrapped up till now. She runs and plays okay without limping and so we are hopeful that she'll be back to her normal self in a few more days. My owner is keeping her inside and looking after her while she is recovering from her injury. We think that she might have strained her front leg while playing, nothing seems to be broken or dislocated since she is now running around okay.
Thank God that Roxie seems to be recovering okay from this injury, but still my owner has made an appointment for her to be seen by a vet in a few days just to make sure that everything is okay with her.
Her wound is healing okay and she runs around now without any problems.
Now that the weather is better my owner has been getting some exercise by working in his garden and also by walking in his yard for 15 to 20 minutes whenever he can. He's been trying to eat healthier foods and is staying away from sweets altogether for now. He doesn't like to eat meat, although sometimes he eats baked fish. Here are some of the dishes that he has been preparing lately (all cooking times and temperature settings might need to be adjusted depending on the stove and microwave being used) :
He cooks 2 cups of rice in 3 cups of water with a tablespoon of olive oil and a teaspoon of salt on high heat with the lid on until all the water is evaporated, then he mixes 5 cans (15.25 OZ or 432g each) of mixed vegetables with the rice and lets it steam on medium-high heat with the lid on for about 45 minutes. He rinses off the rice a few times before cooking so that it won't become sticky, also he rinses off the vegetables to get rid of the canned taste. To get the rice to become crispy on the bottom he pokes a hole in the center of the rice before steaming and adds another tablespoon of olive oil in the center so that it can go to the bottom.
Just cooked rice with salad and sometimes with baked fish when he has some. He tops the salad with a few pieces of feta cheese and adds some fat-free salad dressing to make it tastier.
He microwaves a medium size tortilla for about 2 minutes and 20 seconds until it becomes kind of crispy (he pokes the top of the tortilla with the tip of a knife so that it won't bubble up when being microwaved), then he covers it with about 3 tablespoonfuls of spaghetti sauce and tops it with several pieces of 2% sliced American cheese and some red pepper and microwaves it again for 1 minute.
It's just yogurt with peanut butter (the natural kind) that he scoops up with pieces of tortilla.
My owner is trying his best to take good care of himself and us too.

My owner has had several Smartphones over the years, currently he is using his Motorola 5G Stylus (XT2131DL) that he bought at Walmart exactly a year ago on June 10, 2022.
The Moto 5G is his biggest and best phone that he has ever owned, the ones that he had before this were very small, one of his phones from before only cost him $19.95 (originally cost $39.95 but was on sale for half price) which he also bought at Walmart and which he has used to make his website for AiMedicalCenter.com back in 2018. So it seems like my owner has moved up over the years as far as phones go.
My owner has been typing all his articles directly on his phone himself as the thoughts and ideas were coming to his mind. He hasn't used any automated writing apps or AI thus far since he likes to be able to convey what's in his mind exactly as he is conceiving them without any changes or delays.
Nevertheless it's very amazing what a guy like my owner has achieved with just a smartphone.
June 9, 2023
The smaller one on the left was his first smartphone and the Moto 5g on the right is the one that he currently owns.
The smaller phone was T-Mobile Concord 3g with 3.5" touchscreen and 2MP Camera with Android Platform
Next it was the ZTE Z-five G-LTE 4G with a 5" touchscreen and 5MP camera and 16 MB internal memory with Android 7.1 Nougat.
The third one was LG Rebel 4 LTE with 5" touchscreen and 8 MP camera and 16 GB internal memory with Android 8.1 Oreo
He has been using these phones starting ten years ago with the smaller one on the left.
Obviously his favorite one is the Moto 5G, with 6.8" touchscreen, it has a 2.0 GHz + 1.8 GHz Octa-Core processor with 128 GB internal memory and 48 MP camera and Android 12 Snow Cone and of course the stylus feature that lets him draw things.

This is a new favorite of my owner, He bakes some canned biscuits that he buys at Walmart and puts half of a veggie burger that he has already cooked and a slice of fat free cheese in each biscuit.

This stray cat was hanging around my owners patio for a couple of weeks and out of the goodness of his heart my owner kept feeding her everytime that she showed up and asked for food (kind of reminds me of myself). My owner wasn't able to keep this new cat because the rest of the tribe here wasn't very receptive to having a new comer in their midst so he made arrangements with a local animal rescue organization to get her some help specially since he had noticed that she had a couple of wounds on her body which weren't there a week before.
Unfortunately there are some sick people who live in our neighborhood who have a history of inflicting harm on animals which got my owner very concerned for the future of this cat if it was going to be running around loose. I know from first hand experience how mean some people and their dogs that they let run around loose can be since as much as I try to hide it my owner has noticed that I myself have been traumatized at some point in the past too.
Fortunately Kitty Cat, Jennifer, and the kittens which now should be called cats are all healthy and doing well, even though Kitty Cat is almost 20 years old, but she is still very active and is eating and drinking along with the rest of us.
I hope that they have been able to find a new home for that stray kitty and that she has ended up with a new owner as nice as ours.
